Nevada as my U.S. Residence

March 10, 2015      After I fulfill some obligations on the east coast for my day job, I’ll head back to Las Vegas to continue to establish my U.S. residency there. I have a driver’s license from Nevada and have moved my corporation there. I used Your Entity Solution to accomplish the move of the corporation. They made it really easy and provide training on how to operate your corporation. This spring, I will probably register my car in Nevada and get an address there…someplace that has a box for mail and will forward my mail to me, wherever I am. … Continue reading

Medellin, Here I Come

March 10, 2015      My next international adventure will be to visit Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia. I will be attending two conferences, back to back, my first week there.  Then, I’ll spend another 4 ½ weeks there. On my way back to the U.S. in mid-June, I’ll stop in Panama and pick up my cedula. Let me tell you about the conferences I’ll be attending. They take place the week of May 11 – 17, 2015. The first one is the Live and Invest in Colombia conference, hosted by Kathleen Peddicord and Lief Simon of Live and Invest Overseas. As you may … Continue reading

Creative Ways to Buy Gold

September 3, 2014 In spite of the impression you would have gotten if you read my report “How to Prepare Yourself for the Coming Economic Train Wreck,” I still care about my ex-husband and consider him a friend. I was back in Raleigh for 8 days at the conclusion of my cross-country U.S. adventure so I invited him to dinner and we had a nice time. This was probably my last time in Raleigh, so I wanted to spend some time with him. I went to his house a few other times and we ended up going to lunch together, … Continue reading

Preparations for My Move to Ecuador – You Should Do this, too

Aug. 14, 2014 Even while I spent 3 months traveling around and living in different parts of the U.S., I was still preparing for my upcoming move to Ecuador. I was originally planning to go to Las Vegas for the Freedom Fest in July, but the timing didn’t quite work out. I needed to be on the east coast during the festival for my day job. I did go to the venue where it was being held on the first night and talked briefly to a couple who was attending the event. I did manage to accomplish my other mission … Continue reading

My First Trading System is Ready for Live Trading

May 7, 2014 I had a coaching call with my trading coach while I was in Austin. He asked a lot of questions about my backtest results and tried to find problems with it. He declared that it looks like a good one and I can start trading it. I was surprised and didn’t feel ready. It implements a short-term long strategy. That sounds weird, doesn’t it? By “long,” I mean that I’ll be buying stocks rather than selling (or shorting) them. And by “short-term,” I mean that the positions will only be open for about 5 days. When my … Continue reading

My Cross-Country Road-Trip

May 7, 2014 I have been living the gypsy life for 3 1/2 weeks now. One of those weeks was spent in Atlanta, visiting a friend and my son. The second two weeks were spent in Austin, TX. I needed to be there for a couple days for my day job so I decided to spend a couple weeks there. I may make that my U.S. base. It is twice the size of Raleigh, where I have lived for the last 35 years. It appears to be a very liberal city and very environmentally conscious. In order to encourage you … Continue reading

How the Next Chapter in my Life Begins

April 9, 2014  A major chapter in my life is coming to an end this week. There are actually multiple parts to this chapter. My daughter, who is my oldest child, is getting married. In addition, I’m moving away from the area I have lived in for 35 years. I moved to North Carolina right out of college to work for IBM. I was unattached and ready for whatever life brought my way. While living in NC, I met my husband, got married, had children, raised my children, began my life as an entrepreneur, and got divorced. During the 35 … Continue reading

Preparing for a New Chapter in my Life

April 2, 2014 Before departing on my Latin American travels this year, I moved all of my belongings out of my room and rented it out. I had been renting this house from the owner and then renting out the other rooms and the basement to other people. I had 3 roommates. I paid the rent and all the utilities and they paid me a fixed rate each month. Since experiencing the financial challenges of 2008 and 2009, I have been living a frugal life, which includes sharing housing with others. It hasn’t been too bad; especially during the last … Continue reading

Sophia is Moving to Cuenca, Ecuador

February 26, 2014 While I was in the city, I was reminded of how much I liked Cuenca when I was here in 2009. I always said that if I moved to Ecuador, I would live in Cuenca. Well….my last week in Ecuador, I decided that I will move to Cuenca. It is not necessarily where I will stay permanently, but it is a great intermediate step to finding my perfect location. The reason I decided to take this step is that 2 of the people who I got to know at Gaia Sagrada are staying in Cuenca indefinitely. I … Continue reading

Travel Stories from Ecuador & Panama

February 26, 2014 When I went to check in for my flight from Cuenca to Quito, after handing over my checked bag, I was asked to weigh my carry-on. As I wrote in January when I was in the quandary about the weight limits on an Air Panama flight, my briefcase containing 2 computers and an external hard-drive weighed about 30 pounds. I had to get it down to 8 kilograms for this flight. First, I pulled out my Macbook Pro and put it in my daypack. The briefcase was still overweight, of course, so I pulled out my PC. … Continue reading
